Looking at the broader picture it would seem music is doomed to be either taken over by huge money making pop stars or swept under the carpet in the internet world of bands on myspace. The savior to alternative music may be the live music scene where concert tickets have risen in price to accommodate bands that do not sell millions of records. People still want to see and hear something different and yes even people who like Lady Gaga dig many of the bands she likes herself. Major record companies like Capitol, Universal have seen the growth of ticket sales flourish as kids want to experience some thing beyond their computer screen. Young people in their teens and twenties still dig Kurt Kobain and Nirvana, they understand the difference even if record companies just keep churning out products labeled alternative music.
