Halloween Costumes Some Scary Some Cute

On All Hallow’s Eve, another name for Halloween, kids and adults can be whoever they choose to be. It is fun for them to decide what Halloween costumes to wear. There are new TV and movie characters to select from every year.

Dracula will appear on many neighborhood porches looking for candy. He will wear a long black cape and fangs. Blood will drip from his mouth. A female witch will be dressed in black and wear a pointed hat. She may be carrying a broom, or riding one.

The little ones will select from Superman, Batman and Spiderman. All the superheroes are represented at the store selling costumes. They will carry bags or pumpkins in which to collect trick or treat candy in the neighborhood.

One beautiful little girl made the rounds in her custom-made genie costume. Her mother made it after the child picked out the pattern. Sewn in pale blue silk with a pink chiffon overlay, it was quite fancy. The top had puffy sleeves and gold braid trimming with tassels at the waistline. The harem pants had gold trim at the waist too.

Other little girls appear in improvised princess outfits and store-bought ones complete with jeweled tiaras. Cinderella is out and the evil stepmother as well. Many witches and good fairies roam the neighborhood as well. There goes the scary Freddy Krueger and a white-wrapped mummy who escaped from the museum.

Any boy with an imagination can improvise a hobo costume with an old shirt, a bandana on a stick and a shabby old hat. He can use black face make-up to rub simulated dirt on his face. A girl can use costume jewelry, a peasant blouse and floor-length skirt to transform herself into a gypsy.

Adult costumes include Elvira, a character from the Addams Family TV show and a scantily clad dancing girl. A man or woman can be a chef (with an appropriate hat and apron)or a bear or even pose as the village idiot with a t-shirt that claims that title. One costume was a beer can which was very funny.

You can shop online for fabulous Halloween costumes. Those made for Renaissance Faire wear are beautifully sewn and intended for more than once a year use. At least one woman at every adult party arrives in a skimpy tart outfit. Men cheer and their wives give her dirty looks.

A man can wear a dress and pantyhose and attempt to walk in high heels. This won’t be easy for him and is fun to watch. He can even wear earrings, although many men routinely wear earrings these days. A wig will complete the outfit. Sometimes he adds a heavy dose of perfume for a realistic touch.

The many Costumes, both store-bought and improvised, are fun to see. It’s amazing what a make-up kit can do to turn a child’s face into a cat face or a vampire face with blood dripping down from the corners of the mouth. Smiling or booing, you can do a little of both when viewing the many Halloween costumes on parade under the full moon.
