Contemporary oil paintings are art that has generally been produced after World War 11. Mostly it is usually defined as being art which is produced in the here and now time, although museums usually explain it as paintings done since the second World War.

The commercial art sector and art organizations of contemporary works which are funded by the public often have a close association. A dealer who has an association with one of these types of museums, can often represent an artist who may have an art show which is open to the public.

The effect on this style of art work can be influenced by the many places exhibiting oil paintings. Corporations that organize awards and sponsorship, have art works displayed in their buildings and quite large collections can have an influence, as can private collectors who concentrate on a certain style at that particular time.

When influenced by outside pressure from the commercial sector or the public, art organizations may display certain types of style. Art galleries can decide on exhibiting a certain way of oil painting, as may an exhibit set up personally by an artist with a view to sales of their type of oil paintings. Many artists and paintings are often influenced by the then and there of a particular period in time.

Many competitions are available for artists to enter and these can include certain nationalities, those of different age groups and one for emerging artists. There are quite a number of prizes which can be won and also awards for an artists work.

The public may see the contemporary artists work in oils as very appealing or something that does not appeal at all. It could be seen as an outstanding work of art by some, and others could see it as not even a representation of true art work.

Different periods of time have had many kinds of art work representation, over time these have varied greatly. The 1950′s saw oil paintings of abstract expressionism, whereas the early period of 2000 saw works of classical realism, both these periods had many other styles as well. A number of things can change the style of art from time to time, it may be a collector who has influence in the art world, or a well known artist who may change the way he paints in oils. The purchase of oil paintings often depends on a persons tastes, whether it is for the simple, or the attractive, colorful or that which is meticulously done, it is the purchaser who tends to control the market.
